How Life Coaching Works

One to One Coaching in Person or by Phone

You want to achieve something but you don’t know where to start or the obstacles seem too great.

Perhaps you aren't aware of your ambitions. Bored? Stressed? Do you know why? Your boredom & stress might be the best place to start looking for your ambitions. One to one life coaching is your chance to find out what you want and then come up with a plan for getting it.

One to one life coaching allows an increase in awareness, efficiency, freedom, performance, purpose, balance, success, adventure, excellence, faithfulness and fun.

As a client you will be asked questions and given a good listening to. The answers to these questions will enable you and the coach to become more aware of your desires and purpose and the steps you must take in order to fulfil this purpose. You will be encouraged to set goals. These goals will be revisited in subsequent coaching sessions thus providing accountability and increasing responsibility.

Coaching is client directed. The content and subjects of coaching is determined by you, the client.

Your one to one life coaching sessions are 50 minutes long and take place face to face or via the telephone. Goal setting and ongoing reflection will ensure that the coaching process extends beyond the session and affects as much of your daily life as you choose. We suggest you book in blocks of eight sessions with a suggested one to two weeks between sessions.

Hillside view – one to one life coaching can help you get there

Example Case Study – An Idea of How a Client Might Develop Towards His Objectives

Session 1 A client reveals a past enjoyment of hill walking, his son’s new interest in outdoor adventure and his hope that they can share mountain experiences together. He names perceived obstacles to this plan including; his physical fitness, work patterns, a latterly developed fear of heights, rusty skills and low confidence. The client sets goals to address these hurdles including a visit to his GP for advice on his fitness and suitable training to improve the same.
Session 2 Previously set goals are revisited and performance assessed. Where these goals have been not been achieved questions are asked to increase a client’s awareness of the obstacles blocking his performance and the goals are revised in the light of conclusions.
Session 3 As part of the above, renewed, process the client decides that some formal mountain skills training would refresh his competence and increase his confidence. He commits to researching the courses that are available.
Session 4 Questions reveal that a major obstacle in the client’s physical development is his perceived lack of available time to train within his busy schedule. After some creative diary work he decides that by revising journey times to work he would be able to include a short training session before work every day and still reduce his commute times. He resolves to do this for a fortnight.
Session 5 One of the subjects of conversation during this session is the client’s fear of heights. He decides to speak to a trusted rock climber friend of his about possibilities for an evening out at a local crag.
Session 6 The client makes more progress in terms of identifying and overcoming obstacles to him achieving his general objectives, more goals are set and effective goals are renewed.
Session 7 The client states that, following a recent day trip into the hills, he can report that his fitness and confidence have increased significantly and his motivation is similarly elevated.
Session 8 During a review of the client’s progress the client is happy to conclude that in all departments he has achieved the results he wanted. He has also gained considerable understanding of his limiting beliefs and behaviours and how he can continue to change these in order to progress towards his future objectives.
