When we buy something we don’t usually spend our money because we want the thing itself. We are after the benefits our purchase brings. For example, my running shoes aren’t attractive. In fact they are so unattractive (to an important person’s nostrils) that they wait outside for me. I don’t like putting them on; especially in cold, moist weather or if a slug is nestled in the toe. I don’t show them off to my friends when they visit. I don’t have photos of them on my wall. I don’t polish them. I once cleaned them but that was whilst I was still wearing them - because they were so encased in mud it was the only way I could get my feet out of them. I’ve never had any kind of fantasy about them. They aren’t insured. They are in full view of the road but they are unstolen. My running shoes are, however, amongst my most valuable possessions. Because without them I would miss out on regular periods of muddy freedom and recreation that are of enormous benefit to me. And that’s the point – it’s the benefits of something that makes it valuable.
The value of life coaching is similar. It lies not in the joy of talking to someone bald. It is the benefits of life coaching that makes it valuable. What price would you pay for any of the below list? Compare that to the cost of coaching and coaching suddenly becomes a bargain. Or one of the best investments you’ll make.
These are some of the benefits of outdoor recreation that have come to people following life coaching. I have noticed them in people or I have heard people recount them after excursions or as comments on new habits.
