New Year’s resolution 1: This year I want to have more fun & recreation
Have you ever made this resolution? How successful were you? If you were successful, congratulations. If you weren’t, you’re not alone.
New Year’s resolution 2: This year I want to become fitter and stay fitter
This is a popular resolution. Data shows that the number of people joining health clubs in January is 65% higher than during other months of the year. Data also shows that joining a gym is more popular than using one.
New years resolutions don’t work very often. They don’t work because they are usually:
- Unachievable: If I want to become an outstanding rower but have never rowed before, don’t own a boat and live nowhere near suitable water, I first need to carefully address each of these hurdles. A life coach will enable you to identify and overcome the hurdles that make a resolution unachievable.
- Unrealistic: It’s good to be idealistic and romantic. A life coach will encourage you to be this and critical. The end result will be resolutions that are realistic.
- Unsupported: Joining a gym doesn’t get you fit. A life coach will have you reflecting on the reasons you don’t go to the gym. A life coach will also raise your awareness of the things that motivate you and encourage you to develop habits that are congruent with your values.
What was it last year that prevented you from achieving what you wanted? What will you do to prevent the same thing happening this year? What can you do to increase your understanding of why your excellent resolutions don’t result in the changes you want?
A life coach will ensure that your New Year’s resolutions are achievable, realistic and supported.
